GENERAL POLICIES
Communication
As a teacher-owned and operated school, we rely on email for the majority of our communications. Please allow 5-10 business days for us to process large requests. For any time sensitive requests, we will always honor the date at which the message was sent.
Schedule
All lessons at MidPeninsula Music Academy occur year round. Lessons are not automatically scheduled the week of Thanksgiving, the two weeks containing Christmas and New Years, Ski Week, and Spring Break, in accordance with the Redwood City School District K-8 Instructional Calendar. Teachers may choose to manually schedule lessons during those times on a case by case basis.
Withdrawal
All withdrawal requests must be made two weeks in advance. Please email admin@midpenmusicacademy.com to notify. We do not issue refunds for any lessons that have already been paid. We encourage students to finish out all of their paid lessons.
Extended Vacations
If a student is to be absent for a month or more, they must pay an Extended Vacation Tuition to reserve their spot with their current teacher. This cost is subject to change and can be found on our tuition page at www.midpenmuiscacademy.com/tuition
Practice and Instrument Requirements
All students are required to play an instrument at home. Each teacher sets their own practice requirements for their own students.
Registration
All students have a one time registration. This cost is subject to change and can be found on our tuition page at www.midpenmusicacademy.com/tuition
Early/Late Drop Off/Pick up
MidPeninsula Music Academy is not responsible for students before or after class. Please do not drop off students more than 5 minutes before their class or pick them up more than 5 minutes after their class.
Termination of Lesson
Teachers reserve the right to request the termination of lessons with a student if a practice requirement is not met, if a student does not have an adequate instrument, or for behavioral issues. After a month-long review period with the teacher, MPMA Admin, and the students parents (not applicable for adult students), a decision will be made whether or not to allow the continuation of lessons.
Injuries
Parents, legal guardians of minor students, and adult students waive the right to any legal action for any injury sustained on or around the school property resulting from normal lesson activity or any other activity conducted by the students before, during, or after their lesson time.
PRIVATE STUDENT POLICIES
Tuition
Students are billed IN ADVANCE for the sum price of the scheduled lessons for the upcoming month. New students will receive a special first month’s invoice before their first lesson that includes their registration and lessons within that month. After that, invoices for each upcoming month will be sent via email on the 25th of the previous month, and are due on the 1st of the month in question. If the invoice is not fulfilled by the 10th of the month, a late fee will automatically be applied to the invoice. All associated prices are subject to change and can be found at www.midpenmusicacademy.com/tuition
Absences
It is important to notify the school during the billing adjustment period (the 25th to the 1st) of any absences, so that we can send you a corrected invoice. If we do not receive notice of an absence more than 24 hours in advance, the lesson will be full price and no make-up credit or tuition credit will be granted. Students are granted one (1) Emergency Cancellation per term (July-December, January-June). We highly encourage you to communicate about absences with the school via our email, admin@midpenmusicacademy.com
Tardiness/No Show Policy
If a student is late by more than half of their lesson time, the lesson is forfeit and the instructor is at liberty to turn them away. This is considered a no show. No shows are not eligible for make up or tuition credit.
Tuition Credits
If a make-up lesson was unable to be scheduled before the end of the month, the associated Make-Up Credit becomes a Tuition Credit, which is automatically deducted from the following month’s bill. Only one excused absence a month can become a Tuition Credit. Tuition credits are not individually displayed on our bills; instead their price is shown in aggregate at the top of the invoice. Parents are asked to keep track of their attendance and tuition through the MyMusicStaff Portal.
Substitutes and Cancelled Lessons
MidPeninsula Music Academy reserves the right to provide a substitute teacher if a regularly scheduled teacher is ill or otherwise unable to teach a lesson. If a substitute is unable to be found, the lesson will be marked as an excused absence for the students and a make-up credit will be given.
Participation in Recitals
MPMA holds multiple recitals per year. Private Students are strongly encouraged but not required. Depending on the venue, a small recital cost is required. Attendance for family and friends is free but is limited by the size of the venue.
GROUP CLASS POLICIES
Tuition
All group classes are billed for all scheduled classes in a month, unless specified as a “drop in” class.
Absences
Under regular circumstances, there are no tuition credits or refunds for absences. Students are given up to one make-up credit per month, which expires at the end of the month.
Make-up Classes
Students with a make-up credit will be able to attend another group class of similar level if there is an availability in that class. If no make-up is able to be scheduled, the credit will be forfeited at the end of the term (July-December, January-June). Teachers may schedule dedicated group make-up classes on weeks the school is otherwise closed but are not required to.
Substitutes and Cancelled Classes
MidPeninsula Music Academy reserves the right to provide a substitute teacher if a regularly scheduled teacher is ill or otherwise unable to teach a class. If a substitute is unable to be found, MPMA will do its best to schedule students to attend a different class that week. In the rare circumstance that none of this is possible, MPMA will issue a tuition credit which will come in the form of a discount from the following month’s tuition.
